In the Old Testament the Holy Spirit often came upon and temporarily indwelt the godly to fulfill certain purposes. (King David, for example, spoke of having fellowship with the Holy Spirit; see Psa. 51:11.) First Peter 1:11 says the prophets received revelations of the salvation to come by “the Spirit of Christ who was in them.” After the giving of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, however, the believer has the assurance that He will never leave us. See John 14:16,17; 2 Cor. 1;22; Eph. 1:13.
Judges 3:10 The Spirit of the Lord came upon him, and he judged Israel. He went out to war, and the Lord delivered Cushan-Rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed over Cushan-Rishathaim.
