Charles Spurgeon

The king also himself passed over the brook Kidron.
2 Samuel 15:23

David passed that gloomy brook when flying with his mourning company from his traitor son. The man after God's own heart was not exempt from trouble, nay, his life was full of it. He was both the Lord's Anointed, and the Lord's Afflicted. Why then should we expect to escape? At sorrow's gates the noblest of our race have waited with ashes on their heads, wherefore then should we complain as though some strange thing had happened unto us?

The KING of kings himself was not favoured with a more cheerful or royal road. He passed over the filthy ditch of Kidron, through which the filth of Jerusalem flowed. God had one Son without sin, but not a single child without the rod. It is a great joy to believe that Jesus has been tempted in all points like as we are. What is our Kidron this morning? Is it a faithless friend, a sad bereavement, a slanderous reproach, a dark foreboding? The King has passed over all these. Is it bodily pain, poverty, persecution, or contempt? Over each of these Kidrons the King has gone before us. In all our afflictions he was afflicted. The idea of strangeness in our trials must be banished at once and for ever, for he who is the Head of all saints, knows by experience the grief which we think so peculiar. All the citizens of Zion must be free of the Honourable Company of Mourners, of which the Prince Immanuel is Head and Captain.

Notwithstanding the abasement of David, he yet returned in triumph to his city, and David's Lord arose victorious from the grave; let us then be of good courage, for we also shall win the day. We shall yet with joy draw water out of the wells of salvation, though now for a season we have to pass by the noxious streams of sin and sorrow. Courage, soldiers of the Cross, the King himself triumphed after going over Kidron, and so shall you.

Believe in God

Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.John 14:1
Christ is saying here, "You have heard that you should trust in God. But I want to show you how to really find him so you won't start worshiping something you made up in your head. If you want to trust in the true God, then trust in me. If you want to invest your faith and trust in the right place, where it will never fail, then invest in me. For all of God lives in me." Later he tells them, "I am the way and the truth and the life" (John 14:6). In other words, "Whoever sees me sees the Father. Whoever hears me hears the Father. Therefore, if you want to meet God, then take hold of him in me and through me. If you have me, you also have the Father. The Father himself testifies about me." In the Gospels, Jesus repeatedly declares that he is from the Father. He doesn't speak and act on his own. Instead, the Father commands the whole world to believe that Christ is God. No one should believe in any other person or accept any other way to know God than Christ.

So it's certain that whoever tries to go around Christ won't meet the true God. God is completely in Christ and places himself in Christ for us. No one will be able to succeed in dealing with God apart from Christ. No one will find God on the basis of human thoughts and devotion.

Whoever wants to take the right path with their faith and not lose their way should begin where God has placed the path and where God wants to be found. Otherwise, everything they do and believe is useless.

Memorial Day Parade 2012

These are some pictures from this years Memorial Day Parade of Evangelist Michael passing out million dollar tracts. We here at Walking in the Way, by God's grace, were able to put the gospel in over 1400 people's hands this weekend (including other festivals)! Glory to God!! We were met with many different response by the crowd during the parade. Most smiled or laughed and took them joyfully. We had two different people tell us that they still had theirs from last year to which we replied, 'Well did it bring you change? If not, maybe you should read it again!' Only about ten people said 'no thanks'. We had a couple of brothers in Christ in the crowd that knew what it was and told us 'God bless you', to which we encouraged them to share their faith also and on one account, we had a older man tell Evangelist Michael, "I'm going to wipe my a** (his back side) with it!"

All in all it was a wonderful time share Christ with hundreds of people. And the Bible tells us that God's word won't return void. It will do exactly what God wants it to do at that time. We here at Walking in the Way have much faith in that promise and pray over every tract before we hand them out. None of us will ever know until we followers of Christ are standing there walking into heaven and see someone we've given a tract to or witnessed to. May God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ bless and keep you all.

Sincerely,
The Walking in the Way Staff

Keep Moving Forward

For in him we live and move and are!
–Acts 17:28 (TLB)

When I was seven years old, my father bought me my first bicycle. I had never ridden one. Patiently, my family and friends tried to teach me the art of cycling. I soon found out there was one thing I must do if I was to stay on the bicycle—keep moving forward. If I ceased to go forward, I would fall and hurt myself. So it is in the Christian life. We can never live this life on the highest plane unless we are continually growing and moving forward. You should be closer to God today in heart, soul, and body, than at any other time so far in your life.

PRAYER FOR THE DAY
Lord, I have progressed far too slowly in my pilgrim walk with You. Might I be drawn closer to the light of Your love and grace.

Waiting on God

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.2 Peter 3:9
God sometimes postpones answering prayers. He doesn't do this in order to destroy or abandon his people. Instead, he does it to fulfill his promises even more generously. Paul tells us that God "is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine" (Ephesians 3:20). Therefore, God wants us to wait patiently during the delay, trusting with certainty that he will give us even more than he has promised.

Human nature makes us so overconfident and wicked that we distrust God's promises and ignore his threats. Because punishment doesn't come right away, we don't take God's warnings seriously. Foolish people hear that sin will bring judgment and punishment, but they just brush it off and say, "That won't happen for a long time. I wish I had lots of money to count in the meantime." But God wants us to fear his warnings and wait for his promises to be fulfilled. Of course, that can be done only if we have faith.

People of the world couldn't care less about God's warnings. They take his warnings about as seriously as a goose hissing at them. But God is patient. He postpones both fulfilling his promises and carrying out his threats. That doesn't mean he's lying. God will eventually punish the wicked and shower even greater and richer blessings on the faithful because of the delay. But in the end, he will certainly come.

Unbelievers don't fear God, don't believe in him, don't hope in him, and don't even care about him. Believers, on the other hand, pay attention to God's warnings and trust his promises.

4 million children sacrificed

We sacrifice four million children annually through abortion. Our movies, television, magazine, books, and newspapers are permeated with things that are abominations to God, and interest in the occult is increasing each year. For how we are invoking God’s wrath.

Note also that God’s condemnation is directed not toward the activity itself, but toward the person committing it (v. 12).

Deuteronomy 18:9 When you come into the land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations.10 There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer,11 or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead.12 For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord, and because of these abominations the Lord your God drives them out from before you.

Quotes

“Men do not differ much about what things they will call evils; they differ enormously about what evils they will call excusable.” G. K. Chesterton

“If their houses were on fire, thou wouldst run and help them; and wilt thou not help them when their souls are almost at the fire of hell?” Richard Baxter

His in dwelling presence

. . . to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.
–Ephesians 3:19

To appreciate art, one must either be born with an artistic sense or develop it by training. Only a relatively few people have an innate sense of color, form, and harmony. To such, a love for art comes naturally. Without an artistic appreciation in one’s soul, visiting an art gallery can be a boring affair. Likewise, to appreciate good music one must have music “in him” or develop it. Without a sense of music appreciation, it is possible to sleep through a symphony concert or a performance of the Metropolitan Opera. So it is with the things of God.

Talk about God can become dreary and lackluster if God isn’t in you. Church can become a drab thing and the Bible an irksome Book if the Holy Spirit does not illuminate your soul with His indwelling presence. The wonderful thing about it all is that God has planned life so that if our hearts are dead to spiritual things, something can be done about it.

PRAYER FOR THE DAY
Lord God Almighty, may I daily reach out to You and be filled with the love of Christ.

Serious about the Law

David presumed that all God required was sincerity, despite the fact that only the sons of Kohath were supposed to carry the ark and that anyone who touched it would die (see Num. 4:1–15). Remember that the ark contained the Law of God. The ark was holy only because the Law is holy. The lesson is that it does matter how we “carry” the gospel into this world. It exists only because of the Law. It was the Law of Moses that put Jesus on the cross. Had there been no perfect righteousness demanded by the Law, Jesus would not have had to suffer for our sins. If God is so serious about how the Law is physically carried, how much more should we fear if we neglect it—and even despise it—when proclaiming the gospel? All the song and dance in the world doesn’t please God, if we don’t do things according to the pattern laid out so clearly in Holy Scripture.

2 Samuel 6:1 Again David gathered all the choice men of Israel, thirty thousand.2 And David arose and went with all the people who were with him from Baale Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, whose name is called by the Name, the Lord of Hosts, who dwells between the cherubim.3 So they set the ark of God on a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new cart.4 And they brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill, accompanying the ark of God; and Ahio went before the ark.5 Then David and all the house of Israel played music before the Lord on all kinds of instruments of fir wood, on harps, on stringed instruments, on tambourines, on sistrums, and on cymbals.6 And when they came to Nachons threshing floor, Uzzah put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled.7 Then the anger of the Lord was aroused against Uzzah, and God struck him there for his error; and he died there by the ark of God.8 And David became angry because of the Lords outbreak against Uzzah; and he called the name of the place Perez Uzzah to this day.9 David was afraid of the Lord that day; and he said, How can the ark of the Lord come to me?10 So David would not move the ark of the Lord with him into the City of David; but David took it aside into the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite.11 The ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite three months. And the Lord blessed Obed-Edom and all his household.

Mistakes in the Bible

In his ignorance man searches for what he considers “mistakes” in the Bible to justify his godless beliefs. He is like a man with a magnifying glass who diligently searches for a tiny dirt speck on the Mona Lisa, so he can justify discarding the whole painting as junk. In the following (extremely applicable) article from The Almost Christian, written in 1661, Matthew Mead addresses the problem:

“There is a proud heart in every natural man. There was much pride in Adam’s sin—and there is much of it in all Adam’s sons. Pride is a radical sin, and from hence arises this over-inflated opinion of a man’s spiritual state and condition: ‘The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: God, I thank you that I am not like other men—robbers, evildoers, adulterers’ (Luke 18:11). This is the unsaved man’s motto.

“A proud man has an eye to see his beauty—but not his deformity. He sees his abilities—but not his spots. He sees his seeming righteousness—but not his real wretchedness. It must be a work of grace—which must show a man the lack of grace. The haughty eye looks upward—but the humble eye looks downward, and therefore this is the believer’s motto, ‘I am the least of saints—and the greatest of sinners!’”

Matthew 22:29 Jesus answered and said to them, You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God.

Burden

The Christian carries a “burden.” We look around us at the unspeakable atrocities and carnage of humanity and cry out in despair to God. When we speak out about the fruits of sin, we find that the world contends with us. The unsaved suffer horribly with the disease of sin and yet refuse the cure.

One fruit of a sinful world is a system of law that eliminates any reference to God, who is the final authority, the one whose laws are perfect and just. When a nation forsakes God’s Moral Law, it produces erroneous judgments. But as desperate as things seem, God can “do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think” (see Eph. 3:20). He allows us to see iniquity for what it is so that we might be driven to prayer and see Him fulfill His wondrous purposes.

Habakkuk 1:1 The burden which the prophet Habakkuk saw. The burden which the prophet Habakkuk saw.

2 O Lord, how long shall I cry, And You will not hear? Even cry out to You, Violence! And You will not save.3 Why do You show me iniquity, And cause me to see trouble? For plundering and violence are before me; There is strife, and contention arises.4 Therefore the law is powerless, And justice never goes forth. For the wicked surround the righteous; Therefore perverse judgment proceeds.

5 Look among the nations and watch Be utterly astounded! For I will work a work in your days Which you would not believe, though it were told you.

Serve each other

You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love.Galatians 5:13

If grace or faith is not preached, then no one will be saved, for faith alone justifies and saves. On the other hand, if faith is preached as it should be preached, then the majority of people understand this teaching about faith in a worldly way. They turn the freedom of the Spirit into the freedom of the sinful nature. One can see this today in all classes, whether higher or lower. All boast that they are evangelical and praise Christian freedom. Meanwhile, they follow their own desires, turning to greed, lust, pride, envy, and so on. No one faithfully carries out his or her duty. No one serves others in love. This shameful behavior makes me so impatient that I often wish that such pigs who trample the pearls with their feet were still under the tyranny of Rome. It's practically impossible for these people of Gomorrah to be ruled by the gospel of peace.

We know that the devil hounds those of us who have God's Word. For he holds everyone else captive and is eager to take away this freedom of the Spirit or at least to turn it into unrestrained living. Christ acquired this freedom of the Spirit for us through his death. Therefore, we follow Paul's example by teaching and encouraging people that this freedom of the Spirit gives them an opportunity to serve, not an opportunity to act on their evil desires. As Peter says, "Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God" (1 Peter 2:16).

Jesus is Transcendent

Come to Christ, who is the living Foundation of Rock upon which God builds; though men have spurned him, he is very precious to God who has chosen him above all others.
–1 Peter 2:4 (TLB)

No personality in history stands above Jesus Christ. Agnostics and atheists have found fault with Christian ideas, but they can never find fault with the Person of Jesus Christ. They have found fault with Christians, but not with Christ. Jesus of Nazareth transcends methods, ideas, and followers. He stands at the turning point of time. Men everywhere must bow to His superiority. Since Christianity is Christ, those who wish to be a Christian must accept and follow Him as a Person. He and He alone is able to meet every need of the human race.

PRAYER FOR THE DAY
Only You, Lord Jesus, meet all the needs in the hearts of men. You have met me in all the loneliest and all the happiest moments of my life.

The Promise of the Spirit

This Jesus . . . being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:32–33
The miraculous events wrought in Jerusalem by the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost indicated to the disciples that Jesus Christ, the Messiah Savior, had indeed taken His place at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

With Jewish critics all around, Peter lifted his voice and said that all who were in Jerusalem on that day were seeing the fulfillment of prophecy—the words of Jesus that He would send the Holy Spirit after His death and resurrection and exaltation. “Therefore,” Peter cried, “let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ” (Acts 2:36).

Many, many have failed to note Peter’s Pentecostal emphasis: The important thing in God’s plan was the fact that Jesus had been exalted in heaven, and that His glorification there had been the signal for the coming of the promised Holy Spirit. What a lesson! The Spirit does not have to be begged—He comes when the Savior is honored and exalted!

Father, Your Spirit dwells in all those who receive Your gift of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. What a power source we possess! Lord, awaken Your Church to this reality today, I earnestly pray!

Immortality

God has placed eternity in the hearts of humanity. The Adamic race is unique among creation. We crave immortality, but that craving for many is silent until faced with a terminal disease. That’s why we must remind sinners that they are part of the ultimate statistic—ten out of ten die—and plead with them to listen to the claims of the gospel of salvation.

“The longest time man has to live, has no more proportion to eternity than a drop of dew has to the ocean.” D. L. Moody

Ecclesiastes 3:11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.

When Pentecost Came

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses.Acts 1:8
As we read the New Testament, we find a very simple and very plain and very forceful truth—the Holy Spirit makes a difference!

Consider the early disciples—Jesus Himself had taught them for more than three years—the greatest Bible school! But still He had to caution them and encourage them not to depend on their own wisdom and strength: “Tarry ye . . . until ye be endued with power from on high” (Lord, I pray that Your Spirit will “visit” our local churches and anoint them with a renewed sense of urgency to become involved in Your plan of world evangelization.

Q and A

Q: How do we overcome our fears of evangelizing?

A: We overcome our fears through love. The Bible says that perfect love casts out all fear. Think of a firefighter. He’s up a sixty-foot ladder. In front of him are a mother and two children, clinging to each other in a window on the fourth floor of a burning building. Flames are licking at the terrified family. If he doesn’t rescue them, they will certainly die. Would he rather be home spending time with his wife and kids? Of course he would. But he ignores his fears and he denies himself his own legitimate pleasures because he is thinking of that family’s terrible fate. Love consumes his fears.

The Bible likens Christians to firefighters: “And on some have compassion, making a distinction; but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh” (Jude 22,23).

2 Chronicles 20:15 And he said, Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the Lord to you: Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but Gods.

Law and Judgment must be before Grace - John MacArthur

Accuse God of Wrongdoing

Skeptics often point to this passage and accuse God of wrongdoing. However, God didn’t sanction this incident. The Bible is filled with strange, foolish, and wicked acts of men: Lot foolishly offering his daughters to homosexuals, Jephthah’s rash vow (see 11:30–34), and many others. These incidents were not instigated by God, but were recorded for our instruction (see 1 Cor. 10:11; 2 Tim. 3:16), so that we wouldn’t make the same foolish mistakes.

Judges 19:23 But the man, the master of the house, went out to them and said to them, No, my brethren! I beg you, do not act so wickedly! Seeing this man has come into my house, do not commit this outrage.24 Look, here is my virgin daughter and the mans concubine; let me bring them out now. Humble them, and do with them as you please; but to this man do not do such a vile thing!25 But the men would not heed him. So the man took his concubine and brought her out to them. And they knew her and abused her all night until morning; and when the day began to break, they let her go.26 Then the woman came as the day was dawning, and fell down at the door of the mans house where her master was, till it was light.27 When her master arose in the morning, and opened the doors of the house and went out to go his way, there was his concubine, fallen at the door of the house with her hands on the threshold.28 And he said to her, Get up and let us be going. But there was no answer. So the man lifted her onto the donkey; and the man got up and went to his place.29 When he entered his house he took a knife, laid hold of his concubine, and divided her into twelve pieces, limb by limb, and sent her throughout all the territory of Israel.30 And so it was that all who saw it said, No such deed has been done or seen from the day that the children of Israel came up from the land of Egypt until this day. Consider it, confer, and speak up!

True and False Conversion

When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, "Here is a true Israelite, in whom there is nothing false."John 1:47
The Lord Christ does not want us to brag about being a Christian or, as in the case of Nathanael, being an Israelite. It's not enough to say, "I am baptized," or even to say, "I am a bishop," "I am a cardinal," or "I am a preacher." You must believe in Christ and live like a Christian. You must be righteous both on the inside and on the outside. You must not be embarrassed of the Lord Christ and the Christian faith. If you are, then you are a false Christian. If you don't believe in your heart, your entire life is a lie and you remain in darkness. You aren't righteous, and you only appear to be a Christian. Your actions don't reflect your Christian faith.

If we could separate Christians from one another and divide them into true and false Christians, how many true Christians would we find? The world is crazy, foolish, and wild. It's filled with all kinds of evil—adultery, drunkenness, vindictiveness, and other sins. Some people no longer consider it a sin for people to cheat each other. Yet these same people want to be considered good Christians.

Believe me, you're not fooling anyone but yourself. God isn't fooled or mocked. He will know what you are really like in an instant, just as he knew that Nathanael was a true Israelite who believed in the prophets. He will look at you and say, "Yes, here is a true Christian!"

Honor His Spirit

Grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Ephesians 4:30
I think there are great numbers of Christian believers who ought to go home and go into their places of prayer and apologize to God for their demeaning attitudes toward the Holy Spirit of God.

Included in their numbers are Bible teachers who are guilty of leading us astray. They have dared to teach Christians that the Holy Spirit will never speak of His own person or position, as though the third Person of the Godhead may be ignored and His ministry downgraded!

Jesus said, “[When He comes] he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak” (Lord, I pray that my life will produce the fruit of Your Spirit today (see Galatians 5:22–23).

Sow in tears

There may be times when you do not see any fruit for your evangelistic labors. You are planting seed in the hearts of sinners but it seems that no one is being born again. If that is the case, consider this verse: “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Cor. 15:58).

Keep planting and don’t be tempted to revert to using the methods of modern evangelism to get “decisions for Christ.” That may make you rejoice because you think you are seeing fruit, but keep in mind that while we may rejoice over “decisions,” Heaven reserves its rejoicing for sinners who repent (see Luke 15:7), and repentance is God-given (see 2 Tim. 2:24–26). Sow in tears, and you will reap in joy—in God’s time.

Genesis 16:2 So Sarai said to Abram, See now, the Lord has restrained me from bearing children. Please, go in to my maid; perhaps I shall obtain children by her. And Abram heeded the voice of Sarai.

Holy Spirit

It is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.1 John 5:6
I wonder if any Christian can ever show forth the transforming radiance of the love of God without a complete surrender to the indwelling Person of the Holy Spirit.

Surely that was in the mind of the songwriter, as he prayed and sang:

Holy Ghost, with light divine,
Shine upon this heart of mine;
Chase the shades of night away,
Turn my darkness into day.

Holy Spirit, all divine,
Dwell within this heart of mine;
Cast down every idol throne,
Reign supreme—and reign alone.

Our world is filled with hatred and conflict, violence and bloodshed. Through the plan of redemption, God has dealt graciously with this global problem of hatred in the hearts of men and women. He has sent the source of love and light and radiance to the human bosom; Paul himself testifying: “The love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us” (Romans 5:5).

Lord, may Your divine love minister through me to a hurting person today.

We are Children of God

You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.Galatians 3:26
Paul, as an extremely good teacher of the faith, always has these words on his lips: "through faith," "in faith," "by faith in Christ Jesus." He doesn't say here, "You are God's children because you are circumcised, have listened to the law, and have obeyed it." This is what the Jews imagined and the false apostles taught. Instead, he says, "You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus."

The law, much less human laws, doesn't make us children of God. It can't create a new creature or produce a new birth. But it places before our eyes the old birth by which we are born into the kingdom of the devil. By doing so, the law prepares us for the new birth, which takes place through faith in Jesus Christ, not through the law. Paul testifies to this in the clearest way: "You are all sons of God through faith." It's as if he were saying, "Although you are tormented, humiliated, and killed by the law, it still has not made you righteous. But faith has made you righteous. Which faith? Faith in Christ." It's faith in Christ, not the law, that creates children of God. The book of John testifies to this: "Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God" (John 1:12).

Mindful of God leading

Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
–Galatians 3:24

When God gave the law, He knew that man was incapable of keeping it. Many persons are confused as to why God gave the law, if He knew man could not possibly keep it. The Bible teaches that the law was given as a mirror; I look into the law and see my spiritual condition. I see how far short I come, and this drives me to the cross of Christ for forgiveness. The Bible teaches that this is why Christ came—to redeem them that were under the law. Man could not keep the law, he was condemned by the law.

Evolution Miracle

“Contrary to the popular notion that only creationism relies on the supernatural, evolutionism must as well, since the probabilities of random formation of life are so tiny as to require a ‘miracle’ for spontaneous generation tantamount to a theological argument.” Chandra Wickramasinghe

Revelation 14:7 saying with a loud voice, Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water.

Finding the middle way

It is good to grasp the one and not let go of the other. The man who fears God will avoid all extremes.Ecclesiastes 7:18
Reading Ecclesiastes tends to have the same effect on foolish people that preaching the gospel has on unbelieving people. When unbelievers hear about freedom in Christ and about God's approval coming from faith instead of what they do, they conclude that they don't need to perform any good works. They think they can go on sinning because faith is enough. On the other hand, when we preach that good works are the fruit of faith, they think this is how they are saved. Then they try to earn their salvation by doing these works. So hearing God's Word often leads to either arrogance or despair. It's very difficult to avoid either extreme and find the middle way.

The same thing happens when foolish people hear the teaching of Ecclesiastes on having a calm and quiet heart and leaving everything in God's hands. They infer that they don't have to do any work if everything is in God's hands. Others, who are just as foolish, do the opposite. They are much too worried and always try to control everything in every way.

However, we must find the middle way. We should work diligently, doing whatever we can that doesn't go against God's Word. But we shouldn't evaluate our work on the basis of our own efforts. Rather, we should commit all of our accomplishments, solutions, and successes to God. The author of Ecclesiastes speaks both to those who are lazy in their work and to those who are too worried about it. He tells them to submit themselves fully to God's Word, as well as to work diligently. So the author of Ecclesiastes provides a good warning to those who aren't sticking to the middle way.

Unclean by Comparison

And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead.Revelation 1:17
In the Old Testament, whenever the living God revealed Himself in some way to humankind, terror and amazement were the reactions. People saw themselves as guilty and unclean by comparison!

In the book of Revelation, the Apostle John describes the overwhelming nature of his encounter with the Lord of glory. Although a believer and an apostle, John sank down in abject humility and fear when the risen, glorified Lord Jesus appeared before him on Patmos.

Our glorified Lord did not condemn John. He knew that John’s weakness was the reaction to revealed divine strength. He knew that John’s sense of unworthiness was the instant reaction to absolute holiness. Along with John, every redeemed human being needs the humility of spirit that can only be brought about by the manifest presence of God.

Jesus at once reassured John, stooping to place a nail-pierced hand on the prostrate apostle, and saying: “Do not be afraid. I am the Living One. I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever, and I hold the keys of death and Hades” (see Revelation 1:17–18).

Lord, only through Your divine presence in my life do I have spiritual power to serve others in Your name. Fill me anew today, O Lord.

Creation Restored

When Adam fell, so did the entire creation (see Gen. 3:17,18). All of creation groans in pain (see Rom. 8:20–22). Everywhere we see signs of the curse: persistent weeds in the soil, diseases in the animal and plant kingdoms, earthquakes, floods, tornadoes, and hurricanes, along with human disease, suffering, and death. All of these things confirm the reality of the Genesis Fall, and both redeemed humanity and creation will be restored in the new heavens and new earth.

Jeremiah 7:20 Therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, My anger and My fury will be poured out on this placeon man and on beast, on the trees of the field and on the fruit of the ground. And it will burn and not be quenched.

Not only Sodom

“They desire them to consider how great the wickedness was that was committed, and that it was done among them: and how necessary it was therefore that they should either punish the malefactors with death themselves, according to the law of Moses, or deliver them up to the general assembly, to be so much the more publicly and solemnly punished, that evil might be put away from Israel, the national guilt removed, the infection stopped by cutting off the gangrened part, and national judgments prevented; for the sin was so very like that of the Sodomites that they might justly fear, if they did not punish it, God would rain hail from heaven upon them, as he did, not only upon Sodom, but the neighboring cities.” Matthew Henry

Judges 20:12 Then the tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, What is this wickedness that has occurred among you?13 Now therefore, deliver up the men, the perverted men who are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death and remove the evil from Israel! But the children of Benjamin would not listen to the voice of their brethren, the children of Israel.14 Instead, the children of Benjamin gathered together from their cities to Gibeah, to go to battle against the children of Israel.15 And from their cities at that time the children of Benjamin numbered twenty-six thousand men who drew the sword, besides the inhabitants of Gibeah, who numbered seven hundred select men.16 Among all this people were seven hundred select men who were left-handed; every one could sling a stone at a hairs breadth and not miss.17 Now besides Benjamin, the men of Israel numbered four hundred thousand men who drew the sword; all of these were men of war.

How do we listen

I will hear what God the Lord will speak . . . peace unto his people. Psalm 85:8
The living God has spoken to lost mankind in a variety of ways. The general response among us has been, “We did not hear His voice. We did not hear anything.”

John recorded in his gospel the reactions of an audience of people who heard God speak audibly. When Jesus talked of His coming death, asking God to glorify His name through it, “a voice [came] from heaven saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again” (John 12:28).

And what were the reactions of the bystanders? “The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him” (John 12:29).
People prefer their own logic, their own powers of reason. Even when God speaks, they refuse to recognize His voice. They will not confess that God has spoken through Jesus Christ, the eternal Son. When He confronts them with their sin, they consult a psychiatrist and hope they can get their personalities “properly adjusted.”

But in a coming day every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord of all!

Almighty God, I am so grateful that You sent Your Son, Jesus Christ, to live among us and to show us the way of eternal life. I pray that many seekers will bow before You today.

Artifacts from King David's Time Confirm Bible

JERUSALEM, Israel -- Was the Bible's King David man or myth?  That's the question Israeli archeologists are answering with new archeological finds. Their discoveries also shed light on how the first Jewish temple was built.

Khirbet Qeiyafa is in the Elah Valley. Not far from here the Bible says David killed the giant, Goliath.

"We don't know much about the history, the politics really and about urbanization in the time of David," archaeologist Prof. Yosef Garfinkel of the Institute of Archaeology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem told CBN News. "From the Bible we don't know it. And here in Khirbet Qeiyafa for the first time, we have a fortified city from the time of King David."
About 20 miles outside Jerusalem, Khirbet Qeiyafa was a border city in the Kingdom of Judah -- not too far from Goliath's hometown of Gath. Carbon dating shows it existed from 1020 to 980 BC, around the time of King David.

Garfinkel, who worked together with the Israel Antiquities Authority archaeologist and co-director at the site Saar Ganor, said they excavated dozens of rooms. He believes three of them were used for religious purposes.

"The infrastructure is different, you have (an) isolated room in (the) building while in Canaanite and pagan (structures), you have real temples," Garfinkel said.

But that's not all. Garfinkel presented religious artifacts at a press conference in Jerusalem.

"We have two boxes -- one made from pottery and the other made from stone and they were used for keeping symbols of God," he told journalists.

The portable shrines were shaped like temples and confirm the biblical description found in the Old Testament book of First Kings. That describes the architectural style in Solomon's Temple and shows that style existed even before Solomon.

The site contained no statues or pig bones. That means the people who lived here followed the biblical commandment not to eat pork or keep graven images -- unlike their Canaanite or Philistine neighbors.

Earlier archaeologists also found the oldest Hebrew inscription at the site.

"OK, so the ethnicity of the city is like Judah," he said.

So why are these discoveries important? Garfinkel says it disproves the argument of some scholars who say the Bible was written 800 years after King David, with no connection to real history.

"This is, I think, the strength of our argument -- that we have historical memories imbedded in the Hebrew Bible, and people cannot say David and Solomon are mythological figures. They were actually human beings," he said.

Garfinkel says the Bible and archaeology have to work together.

Franklin Graham: Obama 'Shaking His Fist' at God

Franklin Graham, son of evangelist Billy Graham, believes President Barack Obama defied God by changing his stance on gay marriage.
"President Obama has, in my view, shaken his fist at the same God who created and defined marriage," Franklin Graham said in a statement on the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association website.
The president has proclaimed his Christian faith several times, and before taking office said he thought marriage should only be between one man and one woman.
Over the years, Obama gradually changed his tone on the issue, finally stating in an interview with ABC News Wednesday that his stance had fully "evolved" to support same-sex marriage.
"It grieves me that our president would now affirm same-sex marriage, though I believe it grieves God even more," Graham added.
The well-known evangelist and leader of Samaritan's Purse lives in North Carolina, where voters approved a constitutional amendment to define marriage as only the union between one man and one woman.
"While the move to pass amendments defining marriage is relatively new, the definition of marriage is 8,000 years old and was defined not by man, but by God Himself," Graham said.
He added that there's no need for marriage to be defined by by presidents or polls, governors or the media
"This is a sad day for America. May God help us," Graham concluded.
Franklin Graham has criticized President Obama's policies in the past.  Earlier this year, he said Obama "seemed to be more concerned about Muslims than Christians"
The president said he changed his mind on gay marriage after talking with friends and family -- even his two daughters.

Confess Christ

As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him.Colossians 2:6
I think it is a completely wrong concept in Christian circles to look upon Jesus as a kind of divine nurse to whom we can go when sin has made us sick, and after He has helped us, to say, “Good-bye, Jesus”—and go on our own way.

Suppose I go into a hospital in need of a blood transfusion. After the staff has ministered to me and given their services, do I just slip out with a cheery “good-bye”—as though I owe them nothing and it was kind of them to help me in my time of need?

That may sound far-out to you, but it draws a picture of attitudes among us today.

But the Bible never in any way gives us such a concept of salvation. Nowhere are we ever led to believe that we can use Jesus as a Savior and not own Him as our Lord. He is the Lord and as the Lord He saves us, because He has all of the offices of Savior, Christ, High Priest, and Wisdom and Righteousness and Sanctification and Redemption!

He is all of these—and all of these are embodied in Him as Christ, the Lord!

Father, You are my Savior and my Lord. My debt to You is huge! I owe You my life.

Beyond Empty Profession

Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. 2 Corinthians 13:5
Preaching from the pulpit about the Christian “deeper life” does not automatically produce a deeper-life church and congregation. The profession of men and women that they believe in “the deeper Christian life” is no assurance that their fellowship is actually a deeper-life church.

The deeper spiritual life many people say they want is not a message; it is not a sermon; it is not a profession.

I am a pastor and I think I major in telling the truth. It is true that it is about time we stop coddling and apologizing for congregations that have reputations for being deeper-life churches.

The deeper spiritual life is not something just to be talked about. It is a quiet enjoyment of daily blessing and peace and victory that is lived day by day, beyond empty profession and without any two-faced circumstances!

Lord, with Christ living in me, I have the Source of joy and victorious living. Thank You for Your promise of daily blessing and peace. I want more of You, Lord. -A. W. Tozer

Counting Converts

There is always a temptation to track numbers when it comes to evangelism. It is wise not to do so, because only God knows those who are truly repentant. It is amazing how many evangelists and preachers seem to have access to the Book of Life by citing salvation statistics, but such numbering reveals a lack of understanding of the nature of true and false conversion. Making a “decision,” walking an aisle, or raising a hand do not indicate whether someone truly repents and trusts in the Savior. The fact that we have planted the good seed of the Word of God is evangelistic “success.” The rest is up to God.

Regarding keeping tabs of “decisions for Christ,” D. L. Moody stated: “‘Is it well to number converts?’ [David] got into trouble by trying to number Israel. It is best to let the Lord keep the record. It makes me creep all over to hear a man tell how many he has converted.”

1 Chronicles 21:1 Now Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to number Israel.

Questions we ask

A living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.Romans 12:1
I am convinced that anyone who brings up the question of consequences in the Christian life is only a mediocre and common Christian!

I have known some who were interested in the deeper life but began asking questions: “What will it cost me—in terms of time, in money, in effort, in the matter of my friendships?” Others ask of the Lord when He calls them to move forward: “Will it be safe?” This question comes out of our constant bleating about security and our everlasting desire for safety above all else.

A third question that we want Him to answer is: “Will it be convenient?”

What must our Lord think of us if His work and His witness depend upon the security and the safety and the convenience of His people? No element of sacrifice, no bother, no disturbance—so we are not getting anywhere with God!

We have stopped and pitched our tent halfway between the swamp and the peak. We are mediocre Christians.

Lord, I pray for Christians in other countries who face persecution as a routine event. Protect and strengthen them, Father. May many come to know Christ as a result of the testimony of believers who remain faithful to You.
-A. W. Tozer

The Fruit of Faith

The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, "The man who does these things will live by them."Galatians 3:12

You can't show me one person in the whole world, outside the promise of the gospel, whom you could rightfully call "a doer of the law." Therefore, the expression "doer of the law" is an imaginary term that no one understands unless he or she is a true believer— one who is above the law and in the blessing and faith of Abraham. True doers of the law are people who have received the Holy Spirit through faith in Christ and begin to love God and do good to their neighbors. The good that these people do includes faith at the same time. In other words, faith brings about a tree, and then the fruit, which is good works, grows. First, the tree must be there; then the fruit will follow. The fruit doesn't produce the tree, but the tree produces the fruit.

Similarly, faith first transforms the person into someone who can then do good works. So if someone wants to fulfill the law without faith, it's like producing fruit without a tree or making fruit out of wood and clay. The result isn't real fruit but simply an illusion. After the tree is planted—after faith in Christ creates a new person—then the works will follow. The doer must come before the work, not the work before the doer. -Martin Luther

New World Coming

The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
–Revelation 11:15

Christianity is a Gospel of crisis. It proclaims unmistakably that this world’s days are numbered. Every graveyard and every cemetery testify that the Bible is true. Our days on this planet are numbered. The Apostle James says that life is only a vapor that appears for a moment and then vanishes (James 4:14). The prophet Isaiah says that our life is like the grass that withers and the flower that fades (Isaiah 40:6,7).

There is no doubt that nations also come to an end when they have ceased to fulfill the function that God meant for them. The end will come with the return of Jesus Christ. He will set up a kingdom of righteousness and social justice where hatred, greed, jealousy, and death will no longer be known. That is why a Christian can be an optimist. That is why a Christian can smile in the midst of all that is happening. We know what will come. We know what the end will be: the triumph of the Lord Jesus Christ!

PRAYER FOR THE DAY
While the world around me is in such turmoil, Your peace lives in my heart, as I look for Your triumphant return!

We are not all alike

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works. Ephesians 2:10

We ought to be fully aware that in the Body of Christ we are not interested in the production of “cookie cutter” Christians.

This is a word of caution in the matter of Christian experience—there is no pattern or formula for identical Christian experiences. It is actually a tragic thing for believers to try to be exactly like each other in their Christian faith and life.

I have probably been overly cautious about testifying to my own experiences because I do not want anyone to be tempted to try to copy anything the Lord has done for me.

God has given each of us an individual temperament and distinct characteristics. Therefore it is the office of the Holy Spirit to work out as He will the details of Christian experience. They will vary with personality.

Of this we may be sure: Whenever a person truly meets God in faith and commitment to the gospel, he will have a consciousness and a sharp awareness of the details of that spiritual transaction! -A. W. Tozer

Lord, help me to be a faithful steward of the gifts You have given me to use in the church.

Sacrifice

“If Jesus Christ be God and died for me, no sacrifice I make can be too great for Him.” C. T. Studd

1 Peter 2:5 ...you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

The Sinners Conscience

Human understanding is “darkened” (Eph. 4:18), but the conscience is the area where God has given light to every man. The word “con-science” means “with knowledge.” The conscience is the headline warning of sin; the Scriptures give the fine print. None of us can say that we don’t know it’s wrong to lie, steal, murder, or commit adultery; that knowledge is written in large print on our heart. However, in the Scriptures we see the true nature of sin: that God requires truth even in the inward parts (see Psalm 51:6). The fine print reveals that lust is adultery of the heart, hatred is murder of the heart, fibs are bearing false witness, etc.

“Conscience is the internal perception of God’s moral Law.” Oswald Chambers

Romans 2:15 ... who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them )

Random Thought

Evangelism is a David-and-Goliath task. It’s extremely daunting, but we don’t go into battle wearing the king’s armor. Instead we are clothed with the Armor of God, holding the shield of faith, having our feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace, and a firm grip on the Sword of the Spirit. The world may have a sword and a spear and want to feed us to the birds, but we come in the name of the Lord, and our weapons aren’t carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds. We know that the smooth stone of the gospel will be given its power by the sling of God’s Law, and our aim is to hit Goliath between the eyes of his understanding and for him to see the glorious gospel of everlasting life. So, like David, we run at Goliath.

If you think that the “E” on the fuel gauge of your car stands for “Enough,” in time you will find yourself out of gas. It is wise to keep the tank topped up. I keep my spiritual tank topped up with the fuel of gratitude. It’s high octane. If we lack gratitude we will lack motivation, so regularly refuel by meditating on sin in the light of God’s perfect Law, and on the amazing cross in the light of what we deserve if we were left without God’s mercy in Christ.

Truth sets you Free

If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
–John 8:36

The mark of a true Christian is found in his personal relationship to the Person of Jesus Christ. Christianity is Christ. Christ is Christianity. I speak reverently when I say that Jesus is more than His ideas. All that He said was true, but without Him even the truth would have been powerless. Men know the power of truth, and truth is that which sets men free. Jesus said, “I am the truth.”

Daniel 3:15

King Nebuchadnezzar exalted himself above God. This is normal human behavior. Sinful men stand in judgment over God and question His decrees. They imagine themselves to be cleverer than God, thinking that they can outwit Him by sinning and then repenting at the last minute. Though they can see, they presume that He is blind to their sin. They slur His character by thinking that He will tolerate their hypocrisy. Like the arrogant king of Babylon, they think that God lacks even the power to deliver from their mighty hands.

Daniel 3:15 Now if you are ready at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, andpsaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, and you fall down and worship the image which I have made, good! But if you do not worship, you shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you from my hands?

Seek God

Know ye that the Lord he is God; it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves . . .
–Psalm 100:3

Whenever anyone asks me how I can be so certain about who and what God really is, I am reminded of the story of the little boy who was out flying a kite. It was a fine day to go kite-flying, the wind was brisk, and large billowy clouds were blowing across the sky. The kite went up and up until it was entirely hidden by the clouds. “What are you doing?” a man asked the little boy. “I’m flying a kite,” he replied. “Flying a kite, are you?” the man said, “How can you be sure? You can’t see your kite.” “No,” said the little boy, “I can’t see it, but every little while I feel a tug, so I know for sure that it’s there!” Don’t take anyone else’s word for God. Find Him for yourself, and then you too will know by the wonderful, warm tug on your heartstring, that He is there, for sure.

PRAYER FOR THE DAY
Oh heavenly Father, as I reach out to You I feel the “tug” of Your Holy Spirit, which tells me of Your presence!

Stand in the Gap

We must stand in the gap and plead for this world. Had it not been for the prayers of the godly, the wrath of God may have already judged many nations. Never underestimate the power, influence, and authority God has given you through faith in Jesus. Through His name you have the ear of the Father in heaven. See Psa. 106:23.

“Prayer is far-reaching in its influence and worldwide in its effects. It affects all men, affects them everywhere, and affects them in all things. It touches man’s interest in time and eternity. It lays hold upon God and moves Him to interfere in the affairs of earth. It moves the angels to minister to men in this life. It restrains and defeats the devil in his schemes to ruin man. Prayer goes everywhere and lays its hand upon everything.” E. M. Bounds

Ezekiel 22:30 So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one. 31 Therefore I have poured out My indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath; and I have recompensed their deeds on their own heads, says the Lord God.

The Need for Love

Keep yourselves in the love of God . . .
–Jude 21

A husband and wife visited an orphanage where they hoped to adopt a child. In an interview with the boy they wanted, they told him in glowing terms about the many things they could give him. To their amazement the little fellow said, “If you have nothing to offer except a good home, clothes, toys, and the other things that most kids have—why, I would just as soon stay here.” “What on earth could you want besides those things?” the woman asked. “I just want someone to love me,” replied the little boy. There you have it! Even a little boy knows that “man shall not live by bread alone.” Our deeper yearnings and longings can be met only by a renewed
fellowship with the One in whose image we were created, God.

PRAYER FOR THE DAY
Thank You for loving me, God. This knowledge never ceases to amaze me. I praise and love You, my heavenly Father

Bible Contradiction

Skeptics argue that some verses say God’s anger does not last forever (Psa. 30:5; Jer. 3:12; Mic. 7:18), contradicting others that say God’s anger lasts forever (Jer. 17:4; Matt. 25:46).

There are two types of God’s anger mentioned in these verses. The first is a reference to His temporal anger against sin. Because He is merciful, He forgives those who turn to Him in true repentance. For example, in Jer. 3:11–13 God is speaking to sinful Israel: “I will not remain angry forever. Only acknowledge your iniquity, that you have transgressed against the LORD your God.” However, Matt. 25:46 is a fearful reference to those who are the damned—those who refuse to repent and therefore die in their sins. One is a temporal anger, the other is eternal.

Micah 7:18 Who is a God like You, Pardoning iniquity And passing over the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He does not retain His anger forever, Because He delights in mercy.

How to raise Godly children

If you want “godly offspring,” it is essential that you make the time to establish a family altar. Build it out of the unmovable rocks of resolution. You will need to be resolute about this because it will be a battle. Your flesh will fight it, and you can be sure there will be a continual spiritual battle within your mind. “Circumstances” will constantly crop up. Your kids will occasionally groan when you announce that it is time for devotions. Loved ones may subtly, subconsciously discourage you. However, your time of family devotions should be a priority for your whole family. Don’t be legalistic about it, but as much as possible, put all other things aside before you postpone or cancel family devotions.

It will be an altar of sacrifice, as you sacrifice your time, your energy, and sometimes your dignity. For years, our kids heard, “Six o’clock—reading time.” My wife and I dropped whatever we were doing, and the children learned to do the same, and we gathered as a family. Making it a priority for your family’s growth will speak volumes about its importance in their lives.

Again, you will find that there are many excuses for not having devotions. You may be pressed for time, feel tired, or think you are unable to teach the Bible. However, there is one very powerful reason why you should have daily devotions: the eternal salvation of your children. (Adapted from How to Bring Your Children to Christ…& Keep Them There.)

Malachi 2:15 But did He not make them one, Having a remnant of the Spirit? And why one? He seeks godly offspring. Therefore take heed to your spirit, And let none deal treacherously with the wife of his youth.

Charles H Spurgeon

In the world ye shall have tribulation.
John 16:33

Art thou asking the reason of this, believer? Look upward to thy heavenly Father, and behold him pure and holy. Dost thou know that thou art one day to be like him? Wilt thou easily be conformed to his image? Wilt thou not require much refining in the furnace of affliction to purify thee? Will it be an easy thing to get rid of thy corruptions, and make thee perfect even as thy Father which is in heaven is perfect? Next, Christian, turn thine eye downward. Dost thou know what foes thou hast beneath thy feet? Thou wast once a servant of Satan, and no king will willingly lose his subjects. Dost thou think that Satan will let thee alone? No, he will be always at thee, for he goeth about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Expect trouble, therefore, Christian, when thou lookest beneath thee. Then look around thee. Where art thou? Thou art in an enemy's country, a stranger and a sojourner. The world is not thy friend. If it be, then thou art not God's friend, for he who is the friend of the world is the enemy of God. Be assured that thou shalt find foe-men everywhere. When thou sleepest, think that thou art resting on the battlefield; when thou walkest, suspect an ambush in every hedge. As mosquitoes are said to bite strangers more than natives, so will the trials of earth be sharpest to you. Lastly, look within thee, into thine own heart and observe what is there. Sin and self are still within. Ah! if thou hadst no devil to tempt thee, no enemies to fight thee, and no world to ensnare thee, thou wouldst still find in thyself evil enough to be a sore trouble to thee, for the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked. Expect trouble then, but despond not on account of it, for God is with thee to help and to strengthen thee. He hath said, I will be with thee in trouble; I will deliver thee and honour thee.

Unspeakable High Honor

God Himself said that Moses was His “faithful servant.” What an unspeakably high honor—to be called a faithful servant. These are the words that we should all live to hear on the day we stand before the Lord: “Well done, good and faithful servant”

Numbers 12:7 Not so with My servant Moses; He is faithful in all My house.

Sanctioning Genocide

God instructed Israel to put these people to death (see Deut. 20:16–18). Skeptics often accuse God of sanctioning genocide. However, if God treated any of us according to our sins, we would not only be put to death (see Rom. 6:23), we would be justly condemned to hell. All of God’s judgments are true and righteous altogether (see Psa. 19:9). None of them are unjust, including this instruction to Israel.

Joshua 16:10 And they did not drive out the Canaanites who dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites to this day and have become forced laborers.
